Celebrating a Year of Progress: Clean Water for Ukraine with UV4Good
One year ago, four dedicated scientists – Dr. Maksym Bazhal and Dr. Olena Kushnir from Ukraine, Dr. Tatiana Koutchma from Canada, and Dr. Richard Mariita from the USA – embarked on a remarkable mission: to provide clean water to those affected by war in Ukraine.
Driven by a shared passion and unwavering commitment, they formed the UV4Good project, a volunteer initiative focused on developing and distributing free water cleaning kits.
From the start, the project received crucial support from Crystal IS, an Asahi Kasei Company based in New York. Their generous donation of 40 UVC water disinfectors, along with financial and organizational assistance, significantly propelled our initial solutions design and research efforts. We developed and tested pilot kits capable of transforming contaminated water from open sources into safe drinking water.
Fueled by the spirit of community and compassion, we launched a fundraising campaign. Thanks to the incredible generosity of numerous supporters, we were able to manufacture and distribute additional water disinfection mobile kits, directly impacting the lives of those in desperate need.
Witnessing the positive impact of these portable water purification kits motivates us to continue our mission. Every image shared, every life touched, renews our commitment to providing clean water access and contributing to a healthier future for Ukraine.
Our journey is far from over, and we remain dedicated to expanding our reach and capabilities. We are actively working to improve our technology, secure additional resources, and provide even greater assistance to those in need around the world during man-made (such as war) and natural disasters.
Together, we shall overcome any obstacle and ensure that everyone has access to this fundamental human right: clean water.
